Because of the lack or scarcity of current
information on food-borne diseases (FBD), and excited by successes
in the control of other diseases, in the mid-‘90s PAHO
developed the Regional Information System for the Surveillance of
Food-borne Diseases (SIRVETA) as an integral component of the
Regional Food Protection Plan.
